One of the lone bright spots this season for the Buffalo Bills has been rookie middle linebacker Kiko Alonso. With the team solidly out of contention (yet again), watching the defensive rookie of the year candidate has been one of the only treats for Bills fans in recent weeks. Even that small luxury is now in question after Alonso tweaked a knee injury on Friday that had kept him a limited practice participant throughout the week. As a result, the Bills have listed Alonso as questionable as they head into Jacksonville on Sunday to take on the Jaguars.
Alonso has played in every single defensive snap this season for the Bills, so to say his presence would be tough to fill for the defense would be an understatement. Even if Alonso is able to suit up on Sunday, it will likely be in a limited role, in an attempt to prevent further injury in an essentially meaningless contest.
Right guard Kraig Urbik is also listed as questionable despite returning to practice on Friday after missing the previous two days to receive treatment on an injured foot. The Bills were already planning on giving reps to J.J. ‘Unga at the position in an attempt to “see what they’ve got” so Urbik will likely see limited action.
On the Jaguars side of things, it looks like the Bills are in luck as the Jaguars offensive spark plug Maurice Jones-Drew is listed as doubtful while WR Cecil Shorts is questionable.
