The Toronto Maple Leafs have recalled John-Michael Liles from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. The NHL veteran has posted 13 points in just 16 games for the Marlies, and will be a welcome addition to the struggling Leafs blueline (if Randy Carlyle can get over his infatuation with Mark Fraser that is).

Just days after stating that despite his solid play in the AHL, Liles didn’t have a place with the big club, Maple Leafs management appears to have done an about face. The sudden change regarding Liles the day after Randy Carlyle chose to make Morgan Rielly a healthy scratch has led to rampant speculation that the Leafs are going to loan the talented 19-year old to Team Canada for the WJHC over Christmas.
While Rielly has been one of the Leafs more steady defenseman, he hasn’t exactly set the world on fire, and his minutes will be quite easily replaced by Liles. Heading over to the World Juniors where he will play top minutes seems like it would be a positive experience for the young defenseman’s development.
What do you think, should the Leafs lend Rielly to the World Junior team?
