An AFC East grudge match featuring two rookie quarterbacks and mid-November Buffalo weather is the recipe for a game dictated by the battle of the trenches. Whichever team is able to contain the opposition’s run game and get to the quarterback.
The Jets are in the thick of the AFC Wildcard race, sitting just one game ahead of 5 other AFC teams for the final Wild Card spot, this is essentially a must win for the Jets as they face a 3-7 Buffalo team. The Bills only shot at the playoffs will be to run the table to 9-7 and get a whole lot of help along the way.
The Bills are an unfortunate 1-5 over the last six weeks, following their promising 2-2 start. Last Sunday against Pittsburgh the Bills looked particularly awful in EJ Manuel‘s return to injury, and it appeared to be the tipping point for many fans that were cautiously optimistic to start the season despite the team’s poor record. The Bills fan base has been pushed to it’s limits far too many times in recent years, and the honeymoon for the new regime appears to already coming to an end.
The Bills have been anything but world beaters thus far in this NFL season, however they have showed some signs of life while playing in the confines of Ralph Wilson Stadium. The Bills are a respectable 2-3 at home so far, with all 3 losses coming to teams currently leading their divisions, including a 2-point loss to the Patriots, and an overtime loss to the Bengals. The Bills lost big to the KC Chiefs at Ralph Wilson, but seeing as how they’re currently undefeated, we can let that one slide.
While the Bills don’t have much to play for when it comes to making it to the playoffs, they do have the opportunity over the next 6 weeks to show their fans that they are ready to make some progress towards respectability. The Bills can also play spoiler by hurting the Jets playoff chances by beating them today, which would just be icing on the cake.
