Maple Leafs

Suddenly lacking NHL capable centres, the Maple Leafs have decided to give James van Riemsdyk a shot down the middle. JVR was skating between Joffrey Lupul and Phil Kessel in practice, which should be a devastating offensive line. [Toronto Star]

JVR’s move to centre was necessitated by the severed ankle tendon of Dave Bolland. Bolland underwent surgery to repair the tendon and will be out several months before he can think of coming back. [TSN]

The Leafs have struggled mightily in the face off circle this season, exacerbating their puck possession issues. This probably won’t improve with a natural winger taking draws on the first line. [Toronto Sun]

Buffalo Bills

On Monday the Bills released quarterback Matt Flynn, replacing him on the 53-man roster with free agent fullback Evan Rodriguez. Seriously, what happened to Matt Flynn!?! [Buffalo Rumblings]

In news that likely led to the above news, EJ Manuel has been cleared for a return to action. [ESPN]

The Miami Heat are headed to the Air Canada Centre to take on the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night, and Rudy Gay is looking forward to the challenge of guarding the best player in the world in LeBron James. [The Globe & Mail]

While the Raptors offense has been pretty average to start the season, it hasn’t been fun to watch with a whole lot of  ball stopping all around. The solution? They’re going to try to get out in transition and make easy baskets. [National Post]

Rudy Gay is struggling to start the season, and he will get better, just maybe not tonight when he has LeBron James defending him on the wing. [Raptors Republic]

Blue Jays

Marcus Stroman and Jonathan Sanchez pitched in the AFL All-Star game, and held their own against the Fall League’s best. [Jays Journal]

The Blue Jays thought better of extending a qualifying offer to Josh Johnson (or any other of their pending UFAs) on Monday. [National Post]
