The Buffalo Bills have had an up and down season that has seen 6 of their games decided by a touchdown or less on their way to a 3-5 start. The Kansas City Chiefs on the other hand have had a season of nothing but ups so far after winning just 2 games in 2012.
The Chiefs have managed a perfect start on the backs of a fearsome defense and a passable offense. When on their highs, the Bills defense is aggressive and can be as effective as any in the league, and their offense is much like the Chiefs in that they require dynamic play from their running backs while relying on their QB’s for steady, unspectacular efforts.
Unfortunately for the Bills, their defense has been decimated for much of the year by injuries, which has somewhat negated the efforts of their occasional dominating pass rush. On offense, the Bills may need to go even further down the depth chart at quarterback with Thad Lewis, the Bills 4th QB of the season, injured and doubtful for Sunday.
With a number of narrow victories at home to inferior opponents in recent weeks, many feel as if the Kansas City Chiefs are poised to be upset this weekend when they head to Ralph Wilson Stadium. The Bills pass rush matches up favourably with the Chiefs struggling offensive line, and if the Bills are able to win the battle of field position, it stands to reason that no matter the quarterback, they may be able to score just enough to get it done.
The BIlls are the sexy upset pick of the week, but integrating yet another new quarterback while playing against one of the NFL’s best defenses seems like to tall a task for the Bills to me. Mario Williams and company are going to make Alex Smith’s Sunday afternoon a living hell, but the offense won’t be able to get enough done as the BIlls fall 17-13 to the Chiefs.
