The Buffalo Bills have announced that quarterback Thad Lewis will be unable to play on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs due to an injury suffered last week, and Jeff Tuel will be getting the start in his place.
It had been widely speculated that Lewis would not make the start, however with Tuel and Matt Flynn splitting first team reps for much of the week it was not clear who would get the nod in his place.
The Bills have become the “sexy” upset pick for Week 9, with the undefeated Chiefs seemingly a good match up for the 3-5 Bills. With Tuel under center however the Bills likelihood of pulling off the upset just got a little longer. Tuel looked absolutely horrendous in his only regular season action in relief of EJ Manuel on Thursday night football in Week 5, and unless his decision making has greatly improved it could be a long Sunday.
The selection of Tuel over Matt Flynn, whom will presumably be the back up (and ready to enter rather quickly if Tuel struggles) is yet another blow to Flynn’s once promising career. If Flynn isn’t able to win a starting job over Jeff Tuel, I don’t know if he’ll ever get to start in the NFL.
Whether we like it or not Bills fans it’s going to be Tuel Time at the Ralph today, for better or (far more likely) for worse Jeff Tuel will for at least a day be a starting quarterback in the NFL.
