Maple Leafs

I may not agree with Randy Carlyle very often, but I am very glad to hear that he is not happy with how his team has played despite their hot start in the win/loss column. Carlyle spent a large portion of practice preaching the Leafs need to tighten up on defense, which has been a very clear problem thus far. [Toronto Star]

The Maple Leafs’ wild win over the Edmonton Oilers may have thrilled fans, but not either teams’ coaching staff, as  there was sloppiness all around. [National Post]

Some seem to think that David Broll is more than just muscle for the Leafs, and sure if you count his fists as something different. Pretending Broll is anything more than a face puncher for this team is disingenuous, no matter what line he is playing on, citing his 17 goals in the OHL last season doesn’t help his case as both Colton Orr and Frazer McLaren had more prolific careers scoring in junior and they’re pretty darn awful. [Toronto Sun]

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills have signed Matt Flynn to a contract, further adding to their QB depth chart. Whether this is due to a lack of faith in Thad Lewis going forward, concern his foot injury will hold him back, or just a need to add someone ahead of Jeff Tuel on the practice roster isn’t really clear. []

The Bills haven’t bungled Jeff Tuel’s development, because there’s nothing to develop. He was bad in college, and god awful in his limited NFL action. I don’t understand why NFL people seem to be (relatively) high on this guy. [ESPN]

If Jerry Jones owned the Buffalo Bills he may have called Sunday’s loss a moral victory, but he doesn’t and it wasn’t. Buffalo Rumblings handed out some consolation prizes with their Week 6 awards. [Buffalo Rumblings]

Did Andrea Bargnani really deserve to get booed? We could go philosophical with this, or maybe just look at how bad his last season really was. [National Post]

Monday’s intrasquad game on Casinorama was not like most NBA exhibition games, with the coaching staff on the floor providing instruction to the players throughout. [Toronto Star]

Blue Jays

At $14.1-million there is a 0% chance that the Blue Jays decide to extend a qualifying offer to Josh Johnson. [National Post]

Rajai Davis is set to hit free agency for the first time in his career and is excited about it. You can’t blame the guy as he’s set to make some decent coin while finding somewhere to actually play full time. []

Jays Journal continues their player review series, this time taking a look at the disappointing Josh Thole. [Jays Journal]
