“What is a Thad Lewis?” A tweet I received this week from a friend on twitter. It was a hard question to answer. Is he a National Football League quarterback? The only Duke University graduate I’ve heard of who doesn’t play basketball? The guy who is going to show Tom Brady how to throw a touchdown pass against the Cincinnati Bengals defense? J.P. Losman’s long lost brother? I’m not sure… probably not the latter, but with E.J. Manuel going down with a LCL sprain and the Buffalo Bills announcing Thaddeus Lewis as the starting quarterback for Week 6, a few of those questions will be answered following todays game.
After leading 24-17 on Thursday Night Football the Bills proceeded to give up 20 straight points to lose 37-24 to the Cleveland Browns. Embarrassment on primetime television sounds like something the Bills would enjoy.
The Bengals upset the previously undefeated New England Patriots in a game that sent Tom Brady home without a touchdown pass for the first time in 52 weeks of play. Cincinnati must be licking their chops coming into Buffalo to play a Bills team starting a quarterback who was on the practice roster last Sunday.
I’m going to keep my prediction short and sweet… mostly because a bus is waiting outside my house, honking, playing “The Bills Make Me Wanna Shout” and headed straight to The Ralph once I step on. You don’t know how badly I want to predict that Thad Lewis will be known as “Bad” Lewis after 300-yards passing and four touchdowns against the Bengals. The Bills have established identities on both sides of the football, and play well in front of their home crowd. That said, I don’t know enough about Lewis to like the way the Bills offence will match-up against a Bengals defensive that rendered Brady impotent last week. The Bengals will bring last week’s momentum into Buffalo and beat the Bills in a close battle. But… Thad Lewis… so… watch out Bengals! Enjoy the game everybody!
