The Buffalo Bills had 13 players included on their injury report following their Week 4 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, with just 3 days of rest before tonight’s Thursday Night Football action, that left many concerned about the Bills depth heading into the game.
With both C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson hobbled, the biggest concern (aside from the perpetually injured secondary that is) was how the Bills rushing attack would look against Cleveland. With Jackson listed as probable it appears that he will at least be in the line up, giving the Bills 1 of their two rushing threats.
With Spiller listed as questionable for tonight’s game, it casts doubt as to whether he will be in the line up despite his insistence earlier in the week that he would be good to go. With the way Spiller has struggled thus far, it might be best for him to sit this one out and get healthy as opposed to forcing it and being ineffective on a bad ankle.
Safety Aaron Williams, whom has filled in admirably as a defensive back in recent weeks appears as if he will be able to play this evening. If Williams had been unable to go it would have spelt trouble for the Bills who are quite literally running out of players that they can play in the defensive backfield.
Speaking of that defensive backfield, Leodis McKelvin and Jairus Byrd are both questionable headed into tonight, and there has been no indication that either is likely to suit up. Hopefully a longer rest week following tonight will allow both to be fully healed and ready to go in Week 6.
The other Williams, Mario and Kyle, both appear to be good to go despite being limited in practice all week. The Bills success will depend in large part on these two getting to Brian Hoyer and making him very uncomfortable.
In what has become a weekly refrain, here’s to hoping that the Bills can make it through this week without adding to many casualties to this list. One benefit of the short week that comes with Thursday night games is the mini buy week that teams get after. Not only will the coaching staff have more time to prepare for Cincinati, but maybe some of these players will actually get healthy.
