Following tonight’s Week 5 edition of Thursday Night Football, either the Buffalo Bills or Cleveland Browns will be 3-2 and on a multi-game winning stream. Not exactly the scenario that many were predicting when the schedule came out and they saw this less than “sexy” prime time match up.
The Bills are looking to build upon their Week 4 win against the defending Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens, whom they managed to topple despite an up and down performance from rookie quarterback EJ Manuel. While Manuel struggled at times, the Bills defense had no such issues shutting down the Ravens run while picking off Joe Flacco 5 times.
The short turnaround that comes with the territory of playing on Thursday Night Football will be particularly tough on the Bills whom have been beaten and battered so far through the first 1/4 of their schedule.
With their secondary depth already devastated, the Bills now must deal with their top 2 running backs on the injury report. It appears both CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson will both be able to dress for tonight’s game, whether they can effectively establish the run will be paramount to the Bills game plan.
This game, like most Thursday night games, will be sloppy. Both quarterbacks will likely struggle, and the Bills run game is what will allow them to best the Browns by a score of 17-14.
Knowing the way the football gods hate both Buffalo and Cleveland however, it is entirely in the realm of possibility that neither of the teams will be allowed to inch above .500, and this game will end in a tie, just because.
