It’s been 141 days since the Toronto Maple Leafs suffered one of the
greatest most devastating third period collapses in NHL Game 7 history, blowing a 3 goal lead to the Boston Bruins. The Leafs finally get the chance to begin on the road to redemption as the head into La Belle Province to face off the Montreal Canadiens to kickoff the NHL season.
Both the Leafs and the Habs are coming off a season in which many observers felt the teams had over achieved by finishing fifth and second in the conference respectively. Those very same observers that were surprised by the playoff seasons of these two franchises are now calling for a return to earth for the teams as neither seen as likely playoff qualifiers.
The Canadiens added toughness in the offseason with the addition of face puncher George Parros. Some believe that the addition of Parros was in direct response to the Habs being pushed around last season by the Maple Leafs, as they lost the season series 3-2. If this was the reason for the Canadiens addition of Parros, then the Habs management might be at Def Con Nonis.
So after a far too long offseason, it’s time to get back to hockey, and to finally start erasing the painful memories of the 2013 playoffs.
