The Toronto Maple Leafs face the Detroit Red Wings for the second time in as many days as they finish off their preseason schedule. It’s a joyous day for hockey fans, not because the game is going to be any good (it’s really not going to be) but because it’s the last time we have to watch the steaming pile garbage that is preseason hockey.
Phil Kessel is still suspended, but the rest of the Leafs line up is looking somewhat like it will on Tuesday in Montreal. This is the final tune up for the Leafs, whom will hopefully be more concerned with preserving their health than winning this game.
The preseason is mercifully coming to an end…I’ve tuned into every preseason game, each time thinking “oh this game might be different”, and every game without fail I have been slapped in the face with a reminder that preseason hockey is awful. Sure the preseason has its moments, such as JVR’s ridiculous goal vs. Ottawa, or that little skirmish the Leafs had with Buffalo, but really it’s just awful.
So watch away my friends, and remember, that it’s almost over, we are literally days away from real hockey being played (and only 3 weeks from watching that player the Leafs gave $36.75 million to this offseason).
