EJ Manuel and the Buffalo Bills head to
New York New Jersey to take on the AFC East’s other rookie starting quarterback Geno Smith and his New York Jets. Both teams head into Week 3 at 1-1, having each lost to the New England Patriots by a combined total of 5 points. If either team wants to have a shot at being near the playoffs at the end of the season, this game looms large.
Buffalo Keys To Victory:
- Mario Williams needs to continue to go HAM all over the oppositions offensive line. He was a force in the Bills Week 2 win at home versus the Panthers, recording a team record and personal high 4.5 sacks, and will need another monster performance this week. I expect the Jets to run a quite a bit of their offence with maximum protection in order to keep their rookie QB on his feet, unforunately for them, when Super Mario is on his game there aren’t enough blockers in the world to stop him from getting into the backfield and wreaking havoc.
- Doug Marrone will open upo the playbook a bit more and allow Manuel and the Bills offense to take more risks downfield. As witnessed against Carolina, Manuel is beginning to build a rapport with his receivers, most notably T.J. Woods and Stevie Johnson. Manuel struggled at times last week before settling down and leading the game winning drive in the final two minutes. If the Bills hope to win, they will need that Manuel to show up, not the one that cost his team several points with turnovers deep in their own territory.
- C.J. Spiller will also be looking to continue the success he had in Week 2 as he rushed for 103 yards on just 16 carries. If Spiller can translate that 6+ YPC into a full workload of touches, both the Bills and Spillers’ fantasy owners will have a very good Sunday.
Prediction: The Bills defense is too much for Geno Smith, C.J. Spiller runs wild and EJ Manuel builds upon last week’s game winning drive, putting in his first truly “good” game for the Bills as they win 27-14
