Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills looked like they were poised to win in Week 1 for the most surprising upset of the season’s first Sunday unil it came unraveled. They let one slip away at the Ralph, something they might come to regret later in the season. [Buffalo News]

With franchise safety Jairus Byrd sidelined with injury, Da’Norris Searcy was thrust into the starting lineup and he did not disappoint. [Buffalo News]

It was the Bills 23rd in 25 games since the start of the 2001 NFL season against the Patriots, but this one felt a little different. There’s some real hope around the team for the first time in recent memory. [Globe & Mail]

The good, the bad, and the ugly for the Bills Week 1 loss to the Patriots. [Bleacher Report]

Blue Jays

Lost amidst the chaos that is the first week of the NFL season, Major League Baseball is still happening, and the Toronto Blue Jays are playing themselves right out of a protected draft pick with  a sweep of the hapless Minnesota Twins. [Toronto Star]

In a bit of scary news, the Blue Jays announced that a benign tumour was found on Melky Cabrera’s spine. The tumour which was successfully removed may have been a contributing factor to Melky’s leg problems this season as it was said to have been putting immense pressure on his spine. [CBC]

The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly scouting Masahiro Tanaka, the latest Japanese phenom to be made available via Japan’s posting system. From all reports he could be a nice piece to fill one of the Jays rotation holes. [Jays Journal]

Maple Leafs

After years of a ravaged farm system compliments of John Ferguson Jr., the Toronto Maple Leafs now actually enjoy something most of their fans are not accustomed to, prospect depth. That depth is most evident on the defensive end, where players such as Petter Granberg go largely unrecognized, despite their advanced development. [TSN]

Mason Raymond is headed to Maple Leafs camp on a PTO (Professional Try Out) contract. Raymond would certainly be a nice addition to the Leafs top-9, although I’m not sure where the salary cap room will come from. I find it most surprising that Raymond was unable to find a guaranteed contract with a team. []

Don’t forget to keep up-to-date with the Tip of the Tower Maple Leafs Player Previews. We’re firing one off every day (well most days) until we run out of players. [Tip of the Tower]

Live from EuroBasket, it’s the Jonas-watch! Brought to you by Raptors Republic. This time the Jonas led Lithuanians took on Latvia. [Raptors Republic]

Amir Johnson is busy getting ready for the NBA season, included in his training? A tug of war with an elephant of course! [Bleacher Report]
