Blue Jays

I’m not sure if you have noticed, but second base has been a black hole of production for the Toronto Blue Jays essentially since Aaron Hill was shipped out-of-town in the midst of his own run of ridiculously poor performance. You may have also heard since Hill is back in town that he has once again found his stroke in the desert and is essentially exactly the kind the Blue Jays currently need at second. Stupid baseball. [Toronto Star]

The Blue Jays and Diamondbacks played into extra innings last night with Arizona ending up on top, putting another nail into the coffin of this long dead Blue Jays season. [Bluebird Banter]

People seem to be divided on whether or not Ricky Romero should have received the call North when rosters expanded in September, Andrew Stoeten looks at why exactly the call was made to bring him up. [DJF]

Buffalo Bills

Dustin Hopkins will not be able to make his NFL début on Sunday against the Patriots due to a groin injury he suffered at practice, Dan Carpenter will instead make the start for the Bills. A single game from a replacement kicker shouldn’t be a huge deal, and is only really noteworthy if you’re Dustin Hopkins’ family or you drafted him in Fantasy Football because you wanted at least one Bill on your team and missed out on CJ and Stevie like me. [Toronto Star]

Position by position how do the Bills grade out? Well since it’s September and school is back in session Professor Bleacher Report has gone through and given the Bills a letter grade assessment. [Bleacher Report]

Maple Leafs

Training camp is just 6 (!) days away, so it’s time to start examining the “stories” to watch once the team assembles and starts skating. [Toronto Star]

Interesting story from the lower end of the Leafs roster, Christopher Gibson, a former second round pick of the L.A. Kings will be competing with Garrett Sparks for a goaltending spot on the Toronto Marlies. Gibson is on temporary leave from the Finnish army in order to attend training camp. []

Nazem Kadri doesn’t want to hold out, but that doesn’t mean he’s not going to unless there is some serious progress between now and the opening of training camp. []

Want a preview of the Raptors season but don’t want to read words on a page? Lucky for you the podcast was invented, and the fine folks at Bleacher Report laid out what to expect out of the Raps. [Bleacher Report]

Perhaps the most dysfunctional sports franchise in Toronto (or anywhere) keeps on keeping on with the firing of General Manager Kevin Payne less than 10 months after he was hired. Deserving? Maybe, but the fact he was let go so quickly sends an alarming message about the state of the franchise. [Walking The Red]
