Blue Jays

Ricky Romero, Kyle Drabek, Luis Perez, Jeremy Jeffress, and Mike Nickeas have all been given September call-ups by the Toronto Blue Jays this season. Mike Nickeas seems like an odd inclusion, but one has to assume that with A.J. Jiminez injured, the Jays were looking to add any catcher for the stretch run. [National Post]

Steve Delebar and Dustin McGowan were activated from the disabled list, giving the Blue Jays even more options out of the bull pen for September. [CBC]

Hindsight is 20/20, so grading trades like this through the prism of an awful season is kind of dumb to me, but alas it’s what the people want! It should be noted that no matter what the Jays gave up they got Jose Reyes. That mean’s Jose Reyes plays for the Blue Jays. Which is AWESOME. [The Star]

Buffalo Bills

The recipe to beat the New England Patriots is fairly simple, albeit difficult to actually execute on: get pressure on Tom Brady. The key to the Bills Week 1 match up against the Pats is their front 7 and the amount of time they give Brady to find an open receiver. [Bleacher Report]

Stevie Johnson says that there isn’t a Patriot player that can stop him when the Bills face off against the Pats, although he has a lot of respect for (Patrick) Chung…maybe Stevie should take a look at the scouting report, if he had he may have noticed that Patrick Chung is no longer a member of the Patriots and in fact signed with the Eagles during the offseason. [Yahoo!]

With Jairus Byrd not expected to be ready for Week 1 following his training camp hold out, the Bills have signed Safety Jim Leonhard as an insurance policy following his release from the New Orleans Saints. [Globe & Mail]

Maple Leafs

Still not much to talk about in Leaf land with Nazem Kadri and Cody Franson contract talks at a stand still, and training camp still a few weeks away. So why not look back at an era that half of Leafs fans weren’t alive for! [Toronto Sun]

Here at Tip of the Tower, we’re breaking down Leafs players one at a time, in our Maple Leafs Player Preview series. Check back every day (or approximately so) to get the latest submission. [ToT]

Raptors

Raptors Republic has announced the seeding for their Raptors Rebrand Bracket. After originally receiving 40+ entries, the top 16 have been placed in a bracket to be voted on to determine the champion. [Raptors Republic]

In perhaps the least surprising news of the summer, the Raptors have waived Quentin Richardson. Looking at the Raptors roster it was plain to see that Richardson had no place in the rotation. [Slam Online]

CFL

Travis Lulay led the B.C. Lions to a 29-26 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in BC. The loss dropped the Tiger-Cats back below .500, ending their 3 game winning streak. [CBC]

Anyone expecting to see a battle between two of the CFL’s all-time greats is surely disappointed with the fact that they will now be subjected to watching Anthony Calvillo and Ricky Ray‘s backups face off on Tuesday night. Both of these young QB’s may be playing for a future starting role however, either with their current teams when their superstar mentors hang them up, or perhaps as the starting pivot of coming expansion team the Ottawa REDBLACKS.
