The Toronto Argonauts have announced that star quarterback Ricky Ray is going to miss 6 weeks due to a shoulder injury.

One one hand this is a huge blow for the first place Argonauts, Ray had continued to play like the league’s Most Outstanding Player, and has essentially carried the Argonauts to where they are, covering up for what has been a somewhat porous defense. On the other hand the Argos will now get an extended look at Zach Collaros, giving them the opportunity to see what they have heading into an offseason where they may need to protect the young QB in the expansion draft.
So far this season Ray has thrown for 1,824 yards with 15 TDs and 0 interceptions, completing 78.3% of his passes, so no matter how admirably Collaros fills in, there is pretty much a 0% chance that he will be able to produce 75% of what Ray has done.
The fact that Ray was able to avoid surgery is a relief for the Boatmen, but his missing 6 week’s is going to make the Eastern Division of the CFL just a little bit more wide open down the stretch.
