BREAKING: #Bills have signed FS Jairus Byrd to a one-year franchise tender
— Buffalo Bills (@buffalobills) August 21, 2013
The 26 year-old Byrd is a 4th year pro out of Oregon. Drafted in the second round, at 42nd overall, Byrd quickly established himself as among the elite NFL safeties.
Byrd is a safety with elite cover skills, that can also make plays on the ball. He tends to give up the odd big play, but eliminated many of his inconsistencies on his way to being named an All-Pro in 2012.
The signing of Byrd solidifies the Bills defensive secondary, and will allow their fearsome front four more time to do what they do best and get to the quarterback. Signing Byrd to a long-term deal would have been the preferable solution to this impasse, but having him in the lineup Week 1 at Ralph Wilson versus the Patriots is a definite plus.
