Tower Talk: August 16, 2013

Today’s edition of Tower Talk is going to be slightly abbreviated due to me being at the cottage (be jealous). Luckily for me, like most days in August, it’s been another slow day in the world of sports.

Blue Jays

Many questioned why Kevin Pillar got the call up before former Golden Boy Anthony Gose when Colby Rasmus hit the DL, however those questions have been put on hold with Gose’s recall. []

So apparently our friends in the MSM actually believe there is a thing called the Kawasaki effect, where despite his middling contributions the Blue Jays win because of his ‘intangibles’. It’s not just a coincidental small sample or anything clearly. [Globe & Mail]

Do the Blue Jays have any shot at making the playoffs? Absolutely not, but don’t tell the giver of Veteran Presents Mark DeRosa whom still has “Pie in the Sky” hopes. [National Post]

Joe Carter doesn’t think MLB’s current PED bans are harsh enough. I personally don’t think the ban on ex-MLBers talking about something they know nothing about is nearly harsh enough. [Toronto Star]

Maple Leafs

Actual Toronto Maple Leafs news that I had never heard about before. Two Leafs prospect, Jerry D’Amigo and Kevin Marshall, headed across the Atlantic for a hockey culture swap in Germany and Switzerland the past few days. Seems like a really cool program for both the Leafs players and their Euro counterparts that headed to North America. [Toronto Sun]

Breaking News! The Raptors are still a flawed team that won’t be very good this upcoming season. [Bleacher Report]

Jonas Valanciunas dunks things. Nothing more needs to be said. [Tip of the Tower]

Setting goals is a great thing. You need to shoot for the stars, CJ Spiller wants to rush for 2,000 yards this season. I want to make a million dollars this year, but alas, some goals are just not going to happen. [New York Daily News]

It’s GAME DAY. Who is going to lace ‘em up for the Bills tonight? Buffalo Rumblings projects the 53-man roster for tonight against the Vikings. [Buffalo Rumblings]
