Today In Barely News: Leafs Twitter Account Is Delusional

It’s the first day of August. The dog days of summer are upon us and there just isn’t much NHL news to be had. So when I was catching up on some tweets and saw this gem from the Maple Leafs official account I thought two things:

  1. My god the Maple Leafs are an awful organization, why oh why do they do this kind of thing to me!
  2. Hey this is a great way to mail in a post!

There are lots of players from the Greater Toronto Area that currently play in the NHL. Every once in a while, one of those Torontonians will win the Stanley Cup, and bring it on back to the city on their “day with the Cup”. Not so often, that Stanley Cup champion will be a current member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Seeing a current Leafs player hoisting the Stanley Cup in Toronto was simply too much for the Leafs official Twitter page to pass by without predicting said player’s return with the Stanley Cup next season.

Hey @MapleLeafs, maybe next time you can hold up on the Stanley Cup positions until your organization manages a playoff appearance in a full season? Or at the very least pretty please wait until you get your second best forward and arguably best defenseman under contract?

I’d appreciate it, and it would make the Maple Leafs, and in turn us fans much less of a complete joke. Thanks a bunch!
